Once upon a time there was a movie studio that wanted to create a modern fairytale with girl power. They mixed the story of "Cinderella", the modern music from ""A Knight's Tale (2001)"" and the anachronisms of "[ url=https://www.moviemeter.nl/film/1926]The Flintstones (1994)" and turned it into a fairytale film, which is easy to digest.

Elle (Anne Hathaway) is so enchanted by a fairy (Vivica A. Fox) that she always has to obey everyone. Not a pleasant curse of course, especially not from the moment that her mean stepsisters start to take terrible advantage of it. To lift the curse, Ella must search for the fairy who did this to her. Together with the house elf Mandy (Minnie Driver), a talking book (voiced by Jimi Mistry) and an elf she has rescued from bogeymen, she goes on a search. In between, she falls in love with Char (Hugh Dancy), a modern-day prince with his own fan club.

The film contains many smooth songs, but unfortunately also old-fashioned special effects that are disturbingly bad. The beautiful Anne Hathaway is fresh and fruity and sings, among other things, a cheerful version of Queens "Somebody To Love".

All in all a nice fantasy film Comedy / Fantasy film, which is suitable for a young audience.

If it hadn't been so funny I probably would have given it a 2. Quite hilarious that she follows up on everything that is asked of her, even the smallest things that you as a normal person completely ignore. Makes the film a bit dry at times, I like that myself.

But the rest of the film doesn't have much to offer. Some actors and actresses seem a bit fake to me. Speaking of fake, that snake really doesn't look like it. Wow, how fake. Maybe it was still possible in 2004, but in 2019 it really isn't anymore. I think I would have liked the movie a bit more in 2004, when I was 11 years old. Unfortunately, this movie passed me by.

Really a film for the age group 5 - 13, maybe still 14 and well, 15 is also possible. Nice movie to watch with your daughter(s), it is recommended for that.

Cute.

Against expectations I found Ella Enchanted to be a very good film. Coming from a time when I thought Hathaway was at his best. Later on, her characters became a bit more eccentric. All respect for that cover of course, but I find these characters a lot more charismatic and sympathetic, so I prefer to watch this.

To start with the lesser points, I thought they could have added a little more magic to the decoration of the production. The sets look a little too normal. Once they break through some special effects, it doesn't look that good either, so they may have consciously opted for the more practical approach, but I didn't think it turned out so well. Disney has been stronger at that.

Acting is top notch, really can't fault it. Some characters are just a little too safe to be fun, but everyone knows what to do. Hathaway and Punch are top notch, Elwes also fits his role perfectly. With a little ignorance, this would have all been a very awkward performance, but the actors know very well what to do.

Tempo continues smoothly and there is enough variation in the adventure to keep the film watchable. I got through it easily and was able to smile several times at the images. The jokes also catch on for a change. Simple humor of course, but that will never change at Disney. This time only with slightly better timing that makes it happen.

Surprisingly, I got a good look at it. Didn't expect much from it beforehand, but Ella Enchanted is a smooth, funny and cute film. Nothing new under the sun, but once in a while these kinds of films can get through with it. A lot better than that bleak animation film that is constantly being released at Disney these days. With a little more magic in the area of course better, but fine to look out.
