America, 1972. Betsy and Arleen are typical American teenagers who only care about fashion, shopping and boys. I think Andrew Fleming is a nice director. Previous films I saw by him (Threesome, The Craft) are not high-quality films, but wonderfully enjoyable, Michelle Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Will Ferrel, Bruce McCulloch under the direction of Fleming? I was looking forward to this, although I didn't know exactly what to expect. I liked the result.
Very entertaining and clever satire on the Watergate scandal, disguised as a silly teen comedy. Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams play very stupid 15-year-old teenagers, especially in the beginning of the film. So exaggeratedly caricatured that anyone who takes their 1 moment seriously must have a very strange image of them (and the film).
Fleming's intention is to exaggerate the scandal, by showing how easy it is to expose the White House, I think? Even 15 year old girls can do it, under the name Deep Throat, that is.
Nice film, which is probably too difficult for many teenagers and much too bland for many young adults. It's not entirely clear to me what the target audience was, but I certainly thought it was fun and well thought out.
