Nice.

There is not much surprise in this film. Of course Frost is the brute in the beginning, of course things just go wrong when he makes his move and of course that situation is based on a misunderstanding. Will they eventually get together? Of course. Cuban Fury is not a film that makes much sense to break with genre clichés.

And then you don't have to, because Frost has the comic part perfectly under control. He plays a smooth and pleasant role and is perfectly assisted by Ian McShane and Chris O'Dowd. Nice jokes, sharp enough and delivered like only the British can with their juicy accents.

Has just about everything a good comedy should have, just lacks that little bit more to be a really good film. But that's hardly an objection. Smooth entertainment and thus fulfills all expectations.

3.5*

Funny.

Truly one of those films that makes you wonder 'what kind of thing is this going to be' in the beginning and yet comes out with a big smile. The build-up is a bit slow, it starts a bit lukewarm, slowly becomes more fun and at the end suddenly really nice. The unlikely hero of the story is well portrayed by Frost and receives nice counterplay from Jones.

All wonderfully improbable, and exactly according to the pattern you would expect. Rocky on the dance floor. But still nice.

Nothing more than a nice light-hearted British comedy that looks good and also contains a few nice scenes, especially when it comes to the "Salsa".

The cliché story is frankly not much (indeed also predictable) and is perhaps also a bit on the bland side. The execution of the story was well done and that is mainly due to the cast who did a nice and creditable job, especially Nick Frost (as Bruce), Chris O'Dowd (as the somewhat annoying Drew) and Kayvan Novak ( in the role of Bejan). Especially the latter provided the necessary humor in the story with his way of doing things (including with his self-made non-prick "Fanta" lemonade ). Rashida Jones (in the role of Julia that both Bruce and Drew have a crush on) also did a nice job and of course she can be there in appearance too. The ending (dance competition) was nice and because the film only lasts about 90 minutes, it generally looks good.

All in all, it was nice to have seen (on the HBO television channel) this Comedy / Music film, but nothing more.
