Four years after the death of Mark Darcy [Colin Firth], Bridget Jones [Renée Zellweger] has largely given up her professional and social life to care for their children, Mabel [Mila Jankovi] and Billy [Casper Knopf]. After much urging from her friends, she picks up her job as a television producer and, via Tinder, gets a date with the handsome but much younger Roxster [Leo Woodall]. Could he be the one? Even if you haven't read Helen Fielding's book, you can guess how this is going to end. The road to that denouement consists of a series of isolated incidents rather than a narrative structure. The denouement provides the only touching moment. The rest of the time we have to watch Zellweger's over-the-top acting and poor timing squander any chance of higher entertainment value. Hugh Grant's presence as Daniel Cleaver is a plus, as is that of Chiwetel Ejiofor as the strict but well-meaning headmaster of the school the children attend.

What a feast of recognition! I laughed again and sympathized with Bridget. Nice that the old cast is back. I did find some negative points that it all felt a bit messy and the chemistry between Bridget and her love interests was not really palpable as in the other films. But for me it is certainly not inferior to the other parts.

Fortunately, a bit better than the previous part, which is mainly due to the very welcome presence of Hugh Grant and the nice role of Chiwetel Ejiofor. Zellweger is unfortunately duller and more mousy than ever. The fact that her character manages to attract someone at all almost ensures that you can classify this romantic comedy under the heading of science fiction.
