Analyze This plot

"New York's most powerful gangster is about to get in touch with his feelings."

Paul Vitti is a mob boss who, unbeknownst to his accomplices or enemies, finds himself in deep psychological trouble. On the advice of his best friend, he wants to go to therapy with a psychiatrist, Ben Sobol. Unfortunately, the shrink is just leaving on vacation to get married and he turns Vitti off. With some hard to disprove arguments, including a free swim in a shark pool, Sobol is convinced to take Vitti as a patient.

“What is my goal here, to make you a happy, well-adjusted gangster?”

Nice film with a strong De Niro and Crystal. The best thing about Analyze This is the interplay between these two acting guns, and the humor that results from this. Viterelli also has a strong and somewhat underexposed supporting role as De Niro's bodyguard. Mafia boss develops pangs of conscience and mental problems, and hires (forces) a psychologist to help him. Strong acting makes it an entertaining snack. Probably also for De Niro and Crystal, who can still play these kinds of roles in their sleep.

Turning to a psychiatrist as a mafioso is a dangerous matter for the gangster world ... cfr The Sopranos.

Crime comedy that scores its good points in the funny sayings, misunderstandings, misinterpretations etc..., but which falls out for a long time and ends up kicking in the same situations without introducing something riveting new, which the film needed after a while .

Robert De Niro is the crazy mafioso and usually does a good job but sometimes he acts too unrecognizable to be accepted.

Some satire on the mafia bosses?

Not bad, although "Groundhog Day" from the same director was of a much higher level. A different kind of film of course, although there are some parallels in the nature of the humor, I think.
