Upon arrival, she bumps into Luca, a handsome ex-lover who is still single and living with his 80-year-old mother. Of course this is a mediocre film. Despite that, I enjoyed it quite a bit, tonight on Net5. Sarah Jessica Parker as a typical American control freak, who tries to keep her own daughter under her thumb: sorry, doesn't work (I don't think she has any charisma at all, sorry Sarah). What does she want with that Italian man (Luca)? Sorry, doesn't work. But the scenes with daughter Summer and (grand)mother Carmen (long live Claudia Cardinale) do work.

The trailer made me think it would be a fantastic romcom. However, it turns out that the best parts were already included in the trailer and it even came across a bit better than it actually was. In the end, I find All Roads Lead to Rome entertaining, but not great. And the acting qualities and the script are absolutely mediocre. Although clichés are not bad when they are done well (after all, it is also part of the genre), I missed something with All Roads Lead to Rome that would make the film unique. The humor was also a bit disappointing. What is a plus, is the leading role that Italy plays. I will never get tired of that beautiful landscape. The film is fun for in between, but it did not impress me enough to really recommend the film.

To escape troubles at home, Maggie Falk [Sarah Jessica Parker] takes her rebellious teenage daughter [Rosie Days] on vacation to Tuscany, where she had a whirlwind romance 20 years ago. Of course, her old flame [Raoul Bova] still lives there and their love has not completely cooled. The trouble starts when Summer decides to help Luca's mother [Claudia Cardinale] find her old flame Marcellino [Shel Shapiro] and the police suspect a kidnapping. This utterly formulaic, quasi-silly romantic comedy is worth seeing only for Cardinale in a role that belies her glamorous image.
