"When Agnes Browne's husband died, she discovered something amazing... Herself."
Dublin, 1967. After her husband's sudden death, Agnes Browne struggles to make ends meet and raise her seven children. With her best friend Marion she sells fruit and vegetables at the market, but to pay for the funeral she has to borrow forty pounds from the loan shark Mr. Billy and gets in even deeper trouble. To forget her misery for a while, she dreams of going to a Tom Jones concert.
