“I just wanna live, Lee. I just want a normal happy life. I don't know why you did this.”

What a fantastic acting performance from Theron. It's very difficult to sympathize with Aileen Wuornos, and especially with the last murder you get the feeling that Aileen is lost. But the good thing is that Theron and Patty Jenkins do make sure you understand why Aileen ends up killing, and you see a woman who has actually been 0-3 behind from birth.

Some things are her own fault too, and luckily these moments are also shown. The bond between Aileen and Selby (Christina Ricci) is at the heart of the film, and this part also works. You may eventually hate Selby for the decision she makes, but I thought it was an understandable and unavoidable choice.

Mind-boggling film that I successfully ignored for 17 years. And why exactly I couldn't say. Perhaps the unflattering cover. The astonishing thing is not so much the film as the true history surrounding Wuornos itself, which can rightly be called a horror show.

Raw, intense and tasteless is the image presented around Wuornos of poverty, misery and a hopeless existence. Something that is, in reality, much more layered by the calamity that befell her from an early age with mistreatment, abuse, sex with a cousin, being pregnant at fourteen, being ostracized from the family and a homeless life that followed. It's a miracle that Wuornos has grown so old and didn't go crazy sooner, I think.

The film therefore starts at a later stage and shows a more than fairly faithful picture, as far as I can figure out, about the meeting with Tyria Moore, the first murder and his background, the further course with, among other things, the 'accident' where she later were still identified, and the eventual confession and confession made possible in part by Moore.

The film, its story and characters can actually be seen as very double. The film itself is not much better than the average serial killer film, yet it is the science of reality that gives the whole a sharp edge. In this way Theron looks, in addition to being repugnant, in good shape, yet it is questionable to what extent she approaches the truth or acts over it. The scarce images that could be found of Wuornos do not quite match the mimicry that Theron displays. A third point is that you can probably argue forever about whether Wuornos was a crazy fringe criminal or a victim of her environment.

Monster keeps me busy in that sense and not so much because of the film as the character itself. Nevertheless, the film is a fine product with good acting and good music.

Saw it last night and it had been waiting for a while until we wanted to make time for it.

Glad we did because it didn't disappoint.

Aileen Wuornos (Charlize Theron) is a girl who is very naive and with the best intentions still does everything wrong in the eyes of herself and others. From this flow the necessary 'adventures' and missteps. There is a lot of brutal violence and sadness in the print, the language is not what the average person describes as vocabulary and the expectations of the two are a bit too high. Still, you wish the two girls a beautiful life full of happiness, but unfortunately the naive behavior of Aileen always comes through. Then try to get an understanding of the immediate environment.

Also a true story where the protagonist has changed quite a bit if you compare that with her real appearance.

Despite everything, a nice 8 as appreciation.
