Eddie the Eagle plot

"Win or lose, always aim high."

'Eddie the Eagle' tells the story of Eddie Edwards and his journey to compete in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, making Eddie the first Englishman to compete in the ski jumping event. However, he is the underdog due to his lack of financial support and the fact that he has to wear glasses under his ski goggles, leaving him virtually blind during his jumps.

Watched this movie once and was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I didn't know the story, but was captivated from start to finish. The cast did a great job, the running time was good too, not too long and not too short.

Other than that, the movie wasn't too serious.

Think he's great.

As a sports fan - admittedly just a few years before my time - the story of Eddie Edwards is well known to me. A special man who deserves all the credit for his incredible perseverance, positivism and possession for balls. Ski jumping is certainly not for me, for that I miss the last characteristic. Eddie The Eagle is a smooth family film with a high feel-good factor. The film stops at the top, because in reality his sporting career has not taken off. He was immensely popular, but that too was rather a poisoned gift...

Nice movie, that's for sure. Surprised I suddenly saw Jackman show up. Of course beautiful locations with Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the ski resort in the Bavarian Alps that I was also allowed to admire in real life. Smooth and entertaining film, no regrets seeing it, on the contrary. Funny and moving, very nice film adaptation of the pinnacle of the real Eddie Edwards!

Friendly.

Thanks to a grateful main character and a nice rendition of Egerton. He does play over the top, but never in such a way that his character becomes a real caricature. Together with Jackman he forms a nice duo, the rest is basic sports film stuff, but made with a certain love for the genre.

Because Fletcher also does his bit. Freshly directed, with a certain stiff British humor that is easy to look away. Film looks neat, is quite uplifting and also fun to follow, especially if you don't know the story yet. Not that the course has many surprises, but it is skillfully constructed and executed.

Such a film that is welcome on a warm summer evening. Just light entertainment, looks away very easily, does not last too long and leaves a positive impression. On the other hand, it is also very simple and easy, but if it is done well it doesn't really bother you. So good for once.

3.0*
