The Shooting of Dan McGoo plot
Dangerous Dan McGoo, a lone gambler, is in love with Lou. She works in the Malamute saloon where Dan spends his days. One night, Wolf enters the saloon and begins to harass Lou.

The title/plot sounds familiar? Well, that's because Tex Avery has parodied The Shooting of Dan McGrew before. The difference with Dangerous Dan McFoo from 1939 is that the leading roles of McGoo and his sweetheart are reserved for Snoopy and Red. While I thought Dangerous Dan McFoo was a bit too slow compared to Avery's other work, this is no longer noticeable. One visual joke after another passes and the choice to use Droopy and Red in the leading roles, the wolf was already in the original, is a good move. This short is also slightly coarser (that starts with the noose for children!) and also slightly better in terms of animation.

A wonderful Tex Avery animation with Droopy versus Wolf. Many of the jokes with puns remind me of the later Naked Gun films. Could they have gotten their inspiration here? And the overly horny wolf is typically depicted. An image that is still familiar. And the beautiful Red, a sexy adult version of Little Red Riding Hood. Although the link is less present here than in other films with her.
