Lance Sterling is a charming spy and arguably the best in his field. His opposite Walter is very smart, but less useful in social life. He is, however, responsible for the very latest gadgets. He takes care of the gadgets that Lance uses during his missions. Due to unexpected events, the two gentlemen are dependent on each other, although the cooperation does not immediately go well. In order to save the world, they must put their differences aside.

When top spy Lance [Will Smith]'s reputation is cunningly ruined by arch-enemy Killian [Ben Mendelsohn], Lance can trust no one. Except the young, maverick scientist Walter [Tom Holland], whom he recently fired. Lance tracks down Walter, but a misunderstanding leads him to take an experimental drug that turns him into a pigeon! And Walter doesn't have time to figure out (!) how to return Lance to his original form, because Killian must be stopped. So Lance must use Walter's eccentric inventions and ideas, as well as his new 'identity', to save the world. Despite the strange premise, this is an entertaining, suspenseful story full of inventive and witty ideas (Walter's inventions are a hoot), even if the humor sometimes feels a little forced. Smith and Holland deliver excellent voice work, and Bruno and Quane keep the pace brisk.

An animation by Blue Sky Studios (acquired by Disney in 2019 and closed by them in 2021 for financial reasons) that scored 20 years ago with Ice Age. Since then, the studio has not exactly made top films. Spies in Disguise does not work either. It is a film full of clichés (which is not so bad in itself), but here it feels quite cheap. The film has a very busy pace, without anything really happening. With predictable humor and little charm. It will certainly entertain children, but the film is never surprising or creative.

What can be read here does not give much hope, but after the annoying beginning it becomes fun when the superego loses its body and becomes a dove and becomes dependent on the idealistic young boy with surprising ideas, it is precisely that moral that makes it worthwhile for me... The humor is fun.... And overcoming the ego too... unfortunately it is fantasy..... but who knows..
