Something went wrong. Excellent animation and fun for the kids, that's for sure. But for me, the original was one of the best animated films I've seen and this sequel doesn't come close. Little sharp humor for adults, a lack of original new characters and a story that suffers from acute anemia (Dory getting lost several times etc.). All very solid, but partly for that reason also very boring at times. Fortunately, at the end no fish is thrown to another sequel because that would really be meat and fish.

Simple carbon copy of the first movie.

But with an even more annoying main character. Not only is DeGeneres an inexperienced voice actor, the far too busy little fish she impersonates is little more than a two-trick pony. And if you're tired of the "short-term memory" joke after 5 minutes, it will be after 10 or 15 minutes.

What is striking is that Pixar is finding it increasingly difficult to excel technically. It doesn't look any worse than the competition, but technically few things stand out. Still a problem for Pixar, because that was pretty much their strongest point. Now their work is drowning even more in that of the competition.

The only bright spot are the young fish, something Pixar still seems to have some quality in. Monsters Inc is also the highlight of the film. Unfortunately, there is little screen time for them and the film mainly follows some boring adventure with mostly annoying characters and a predictable ending.

1.0*

“Hi. I'm Dory. I suffer from short-term re-mem-bory loss.”

Nice sequel. Dory is very successful in a supporting role, but as a main character she is a bit too much. The jokes about her amnesia quickly became repetitive in Finding Nemo and in this film the makers continue with it.

The first half hour is especially hard to get through. After that, all new characters are introduced and it gets better. Nemo and Marlin have a supporting role here, but it says a lot that their relationship is still at the heart of this film and that Dory's search for her parents seems a bit contrived and forced funny. In Finding Nemo you really felt the bond between Marlin and Nemo, and their quest had a nice emotional charge. Dory's search for her parents doesn't have that. Fortunately, some of the jokes are very successful, characters such as Hank, Bailey, Fluke and Rudder are very nice and the film looks beautiful.
