Avengers light

So capitalizing on the hype of superheroes like the plague, and Big Hero 6 is happy to take a piece of the cake. It is, however, cleverly played, because even though I often hear the comparison with The Incredibles (and that it would therefore not be original for that reason) computer animations regarding superheroes who know how to find their way to the general public, I don't think there are too many so Big Hero 6 felt like a fairly fresh breeze for me. In addition, Big Hero 6 was already a Marvel original comic, so the comparison with The Incredibles is only made, because this also happened to be an animation with the same subject. Big hero 6 is also certainly no less (and even a bit better) than the widely acclaimed Frozen, which really isn't as great as everyone claims.

The heart of the film is definitely Baymax who is a very original character, and also often very funny. I often heard a lot of criticism about the other characters, but I didn't find this one in the least disturbing. The biggest drawback for me was in the storyline, and I'm talking mainly about the storyline that relates to the villain and his motives which -to be carefull- were rather exaggerated, far-fetched and unbelievable. Of course, the original target audience won't even notice, but as an adult I found this a significantly disappointing element. Next time spread the attention a little more evenly across the entire film, scriptwriters!

However, as a whole, Big Hero 6 is well worth checking out, if only because of one of the strongest characters of 2014, the many entertaining jokes, and the moving scene at the end. You got me there Disney! :'(

3.5*

“There are no red lights during car chases!”

Great animation film. Big Hero 6 has an interesting premise and the directors make you empathize with the characters. It all looks stunning and Baymax is a comical and endearing character. One of the best animation studio creations I've ever seen. Hiro is also a strong character and in addition to the tension and comic elements, the film also has an emotional charge.

Especially the first hour is very strong, but after that it becomes more and more a standard action movie with another kind of Avengers who have to save the world. Too bad, because the first hour and the interesting characters show that the makers of this film had a lot of knowledge and inspiration.

14-year-old Hiro Hamado [Ryan Potter] has designed microbot technology so effective that his idol Professor Robert Callaghan [John Cromwell] offers him the opportunity to study at university under his mentorship. There he teams up with his brother Tadashi [Daniel Henney] and makes new friends. He desperately needs it when Tadashi is killed in a university fire. Hiro's only tangible memory of his brother is Baymax [Scott Adsit], the care robot Tadashi had given him. And that turns out to be very useful when investigating the causes of the fire. Perfect animation film with well developed characters and an exciting, spectacular, moving and often very funny story that deals with heavy themes in a serious, but never depressing way. Baymax steals the show in every way in an animated film that the whole family will enjoy with a smile and a tear.
