In the midst of a personality crisis, John Woodson (Matthew Settle) faces a dramatic and profound experience in his life. Through a mysterious set of circumstances, he takes part in a mission in Peru to retrieve the ancient prophetic writings known as The Celestine Promises. The scriptures and its nine cardinal points ("Insights") predict the emergence of a new civilization on Earth based entirely on spiritual values. Initially reluctant, skeptical and unsure, however, with every step he takes and every person he meets, John discovers a new 'Insight', until he has discovered all nine 'Insights'. Within this process of spiritual awakening he eventually finds his destiny and succeeds in understanding the meaning of what he did not yet understand when he started the adventure.
