I was pretty sure I'd seen this movie before, but decided to watch it again yesterday. Conclusion: either I simply haven't seen him yet or he left so little impression on me that I didn't recognize anything at all, except for the scene in the toilets that I vaguely remembered. Since I found the film quite entertaining, I'll go for the first: I haven't seen it yet.

Anyway, I got through the movie pretty easily. Of course it's a 'chickflick romkom 13 in a dozen' as my predecessor says, but that's exactly why I wanted to watch it. The film is actually completely clear from the moment the girls arrive in Paris, you know roughly how the film will go. You also know part of the film before they leave for Paris. So in this respect just a standard film.

The acting is generally fine, Monteith was not that great for me. I didn't really like his character, especially in the beginning. The ladies are doing fine and Meester lives up to her role. She has managed to portray the difference between her character in the beginning and as the film progresses. The same actually goes for Gomez, where she did a lot of fun with the difference between Cordelia and Grace.

For the rest it is a fairly standard film about which there is not much to say, however I have decided to give this film 0.5* more than I normally do with these types of films and that is thanks to the beautiful environment in which this movie was made.

“I finally meet a guy who likes me for me. And I'm not even me.”

Surprisingly fun. It takes a little while for the movie to finally get going, but the three actresses (Gomez, Meester and Cassidy) are doing well and the three male actors aren't bad either. Gomez is clearly the lead actress and does a good job, but the storyline with Meester and that Australian dude is the strongest. For the rest, Monte Carlo is incredibly predictable and a little more could have been taken out of the mistaken identity, but the acting and the light-hearted atmosphere ensure that it all looks good. With Monaco as a beautiful summer setting.

The film opens as a kind of 'Discover Your Place' in Texas, but without a voiceover: a modern low church building, a fire station, large houses with verandas in front and of course a proudly waving American flag. At that horribly patriotic point, I should have turned the film off already, at least I would have been spared the crazy 2 hours afterwards. Gomez and her friends go on holiday to Paris (what a strange round baby head this Gomez has; I can't understand what people see in her, unless you like babies, then I didn't say anything) where after arriving at the hotel a confusion takes place that leads to hilarious scenes. It's been done before, of course: Baggage in America, Big Business.. It's not funny and it's boring. Then the whole stuff leaves for Monte Carlo, probably Paris isn't posh enough for those Texans. Mediocre run-of-the-mill images of both Paris and Monte Carlo. Recently I saw To Catch a Thief by Hitchock, in which the south of France looks much more spectacular.
