In the year 1271, Marco Polo leaves Venice with his father and uncle for China, to deliver a message of peace from Pope Gregory V to the Kublai Khan. It will be a journey fraught with danger, as not only is the distance great, but there are also a number of enemies, including the son of the Kublai Khan.
