Kim Jee-woon has made this Asian Western as epic as Leone's classic.

It is a kind of remake like the film of the same name, but updated to the Asian situation that played out at the time. The story is told in a great way and has enough of its own face to distinguish itself from the original. Asian cinema is very different from American cinema and even European cinema. And this director shows that fantastically. Just look at his other masterpieces I Saw the Devil and A Bittersweet Life.

The story follows three characters in their search for a treasure. Somehow these characters are connected to each other. And that's where the originality comes in. The film then goes in a completely different direction than you would expect. And that certainly applies to the climax. Very unexpected ending. Greatly written.

The action scenes are just as epic as the setting and story. Top marks are the gunfight and the 20-minute chase through the desert. This chase includes everything from horseback shooting to big explosions accompanied by Santa Esmeralda's Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood.

As always, the humor in South Korean films is a bit strange, but I really like it here and it comes across well. This is probably my second favorite movie from South Korea.

Jee-woon Kim already has fascinating and very entertaining films on

his palmares are, among others San Geng (2002) Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003) Dalkomhan Insaeng (2005) Ang-ma-reul Bo-at-da (2010) The Last Stand (2013) , one more impressive than the other, but all of a high level between cool action and the typical Asian-horror. So now it was the turn of this Joheunnom Nabbeunnom Isanghannom aka The Good, the Bad, the Weird. I went into this one with the emphasis on action, fun and high entertainment content... just flop into the seat and go. And it fulfilled the expectations, cool Asian western or what do they call it, noodle-western xD This is just great fun, no boredom, TOP! Now look at this Inrang (2018), judging by the score and reviews, this seems a little less than this South Korean, but give him a fair chance anyway, his films already seen are too good for that.

Farcical Sergio Leone parody with – in addition to a handful of outrageous scenes – a lot of bombastic violence. Of course, that doesn't make the film any better, but that's just the way the Koreans do it. What makes the film better is that the three title roles are filled by top Korean cinema. With a Morricone soundtrack, the picture would have been complete.
