Set in exotic locations in Central America, the internationally acclaimed Herbie displays his special charisma and oiled humor in this action-packed comedy outing. Not the best Herbie movie, but still entertaining. Unlike many other family films, this is a timeless film with a high dose of childhood nostalgia. One that will last for many generations and can only be screwed up with a remake.

Herbie Goes Bananas has a decent start, but quickly sinks in as the adventure wears off and romantic swoon kicks in. In addition, it is a lot more tedious because many scenes are very stretched (just take the bullfighting).
The few familiar faces that participate are a plus, but otherwise there is not much positive to say. The story is thin, the songs mediocre and the Herbie feeling is gone. It's all meant to be sweet and cute, but also boring and uninteresting. As it progressed, it was able to hold my attention. Actually not at all.
