Apollo 13 plot

"Houston, we have a problem."

The film tells the true story of the 13th Apollo mission, on its way to the moon. The astronauts Lovell, Haise and Swigert find that in 1970, after the landing on the moon, there is little interest in the missions to the moon. This changes, however, when some things go wrong in the Apollo, and a return to Earth becomes unlikely.

Great film about the well-known journey of Apollo 13. From the moment it goes wrong, it really remains exciting until the end (despite the fact that the outcome is already known). Extremely spectacular and realistically portrayed with great eye for detail. Also compliments for how the difficult subject is explained so that a layman understands it too. Furthermore, a very fine cast with Ed Harris perhaps the most striking.

OK.

In the end I didn't think it was much more than an average biography film adaptation that was clearly delivered by American hands. Despite this, it always remains at a good level, only the film manages to miss opportunities here and there.

Dishes are fine though. Well American, and really Pro-American heads, but hey. Hanks is having a good time, Bacon and Paxton are also doing well. The rest, including Harris, were somewhat invisible in the end. Other than that, not many outliers.

It takes a while before they go into space, but it never gets really boring. Despite the fact that the drama is not perfect and impactless, it does manage to captivate. Once in space, the film gains some momentum, but the tension is not held for too long, however.

I didn't think the focus on the men in space was too big in the end. Once they have the issues, the focus seems to be mostly on the ground crew. It's the wrong focuses that suck the tension out of the film. The run-up to the problem, for example, was quite exciting.

Towards the end the film does get some power again, but all before that I think it's mostly standard talk that isn't too exciting. Respect to all the people who got the 3 men on the ground, but this movie just didn't quite have it. But nevertheless it gets a pass.

What a dragon of a movie. First of all, a lengthy introduction; it takes an hour for that rocket to finally go up in the air. We are also treated to the most clichéd film music. At dramatic moments such a vocalizing lady, for example, or a lonely trumpet above some strings and a solemn drum roll. And at jubilant moments the orchestra swells considerably. I'm really almost sick of it.

Also very dull and dry filmed. It may all have really happened, but I really 100x prefer a movie like Gravity, which may be a bit unbelievable, but is visually so much more captivating and also much more exciting.

Furthermore, Hanks is also increasingly nagging me with the same role of uber-american heroic soft-hearted. This guy really needs to play a bad guy.

Added together 0.5*.
