Puttanesca.

What did you call me...!?

Entertaining and colorful event reminiscent of Gilliam and Burton films to name but a few.

The film is characterized by bizarre characters and events, the necessary humor and above all a beautiful style that feels like a fairytale. Especially the settings and beautiful backgrounds stand out and remind me of a music video by The Smashing Pumpkins.

Carrey can go wild in a triple role and seems to enjoy it. Furthermore, the children are fine and Streep is particularly striking with her anxiety disorder and special house.

Not high-quality shit, but entertaining for once as far as I'm concerned and especially because of the humor.

A difficult film to rate. I am aware that this is based on a whole series of books, which I have never read, and that there is a more recent television series that I have not seen either. Not that this has anything to do with the film per se, but it does explain the biggest flaw; that everything gets rushed pretty quickly, and that some depth is lacking. Anyway, the playing time is good, because I couldn't have pulled this much longer; it simply has more to do with the way it was all portrayed. Pretty cartoonish, ugly backgrounds, a childish atmosphere (nothing wrong with that in itself, but narrator Jude Law insists this is an oh so dark story) and well, ultimately a story that you can't take very seriously. to take. If the books and the series are like that, then this movie adaptation can't do much about it, but something tells me there's a lot more background and 'lore' there. Many things now remain quite mysterious and unknown.

But, overall, it's really entertaining. Jim Carrey is a bit too cartoonish, but he acts really well (and it just occurred to me that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is also from 2004, so that way you can really appreciate Carrey more as an actor, because this role could hardly be more different), and especially the big sister I found very strong. Strange and unfortunate that Emily Browning didn't manage to get more big roles after this, but that's how it goes with child stars of course.

3*

Mediocre film that is only saved by the masterly music of Thomas Newman. Jim Carrey could occasionally fascinate me, but otherwise I thought it was a mediocre story. Unfortunately, I expected more from this. The sets and special effects were worth it as well as the fun credits. Strangely enough, I thought that was one of the nicest things about the film (that says it all). 2 stars for the effort!
