And then you go to Venom in the cinema, because well, I'm not scared off by the mixed reviews.

Ok Deadpool is the ultimate anti-superhero (and R-rated too), but I always liked Venom too. And of course I would have liked to see what they would make of an R-rated Venom, but nevertheless I had a great time for a good 100 minutes.
Venom looks cool, Hardy is top notch as Eddie Brock and both the audience and I laughed several times (especially the interaction between Eddie and Venom).
It does get messy here and there and it's a bit chaotic, but that doesn't detract from the fun you can have with this film.
Maybe it's also because of the somewhat low expectations, but Venom surprised me positively.
And if there is a second part let Michelle Williams walk around in a Venom suit

In short, delicious popcorn entertainment that you have to see on the big screen

Was able to put me through the film just fine, don't be fooled by the negative reviews and form your own opinion.

And yes, there is something wrong with the film. Hardy as a reporter is not really believable, the click with Williams is just so so (didn't bother me), Drake as a villain is a bit of a lightweight and the film takes a while before you can finally enjoy Venom. Would a rated-R rating make the movie better? Maybe at times, but within the PG-13 Fleischer knows how to get the most out of it. The film is wonderfully light, the inner dialogues with Venom are very nicely done, the action is at times very brutal (looks a bit like Upgrade thinking) and the film continues nicely after the somewhat slow start.

A nice encore in the credits and even a real short film at the very end of the credits make it a nice sitting in the end.

It tastes like more...

Venom stands out first of all because of its dark atmosphere. Also striking in principle is the absence of humor. Since Venom is an unsympathetic villain who had his first appearance in the Spider-man comic, both traits fit well. Later in the film, there's plenty of room for humor as the alien parasite Venom connects with the character Eddie Bock (an enthusiastic Tom Hardy).

Given the nature of Venom, the film would be very suitable for a good portion of body horror. It remains on the brave side. The film mainly focuses on the comedic interaction between Venom and Eddie. The latter behaves like a moron because of Venom's control. That's often funny. Sometimes even funny. All in all, the interaction between the two results in the best scenes.

The story around it is rather long-winded and twists in all sorts of twists and turns to get to the desired end of the film. Other characters don't really matter. Chief among them are an obligatory villain and the common love interest, both of which are superficially and standardly elaborated. Especially villain Drake (a pedantic Riz Ahmed) deserved a less constricting stage in my opinion.

The action scenes tap into the dark atmosphere and often consist of unclear actions that take place against a dark background. Difficult to follow. The exciting final scenes in which all brakes are released, become less exciting.

Venom is a standard comic film with clichés, flat characters and disappointing action. Nice is the interaction between Venom and Eddie. Other than that, little remains. An intriguing invitation to the sequel follows at the end. I'll think about it for a while.
