Formerly a football star, Truck Turner (Hayes) is now a bounty hunter chasing a sadistic pimp on the perilous streets of Los Angeles. However, a tragic accident throws a spanner in the works and suddenly the roles are reversed. Now Truck himself is being chased by deadly assassins. Wild chases, fierce firefights and brutal fistfights lead Truck to Harvard Blue (Kotto), the ruthless king of organized crime in Los Angeles.

I've always thought Isaac Hayes was cool and this movie just solidifies his coolness. He plays the sometimes ruthless bounty hunter Truck Turner and does this with verve. A Colt, almost bigger than Dirty Harry's, in your hands and off you go!
Personally, I think this 'brutal variation on Shaft' is better than the said film itself. A hard-hitting blaxploitation flick in which the victims can be of all colors and genders. No one is left unscathed in this film and that is precisely what makes it so entertaining.
Add to that the pumping Soul soundtrack by Hayes himself and we have a wonderful ride from start to finish. A wonderful film that I can recommend for action fans who want to see something from a different (sub)genre.

Isaac Hayes is cool as the title character and the film has quite a bit of visual flair, but the script is sparse and the action scenes are lacking. The funky environment, full of bad pimps and players and provided with a nice sultry soundtrack (of course Hayes also provides his own theme song), makes up for some things, but the film is ultimately quite old-fashioned and bland.

A bit less blax for me. With whores and pimps, as is often the case in these films, but also with a far too thin and clichéd story with mediocre action scenes, which never failed to surprise me. Truck Turner has a strong reputation in the genre, but I didn't like it much. And Hayes may be badass, but he's not Roundtree. The abundant funk soundtrack is positive.
