"From the Producers of The Mummy"

Mathayus has lost his beloved queen and has been driven from his former kingdom by an evil plague. Now he is an assassin who is tasked by Horus, king of Egypt, to protect King Ramusan from an impending attack. In return for his services, he is promised to marry Silda, the daughter of Ramusan, and to acquire the legendary 'Eye of Gods' medallion that gives supernatural powers to its wearer. But to receive his reward, he must first rescue the princess held captive by Talus, Horus's cunning brother.

Still a fun series! The funny thing is that every movie is quite different from the other. Also in part three someone else plays Mathayus. Historically, the films could not be called credible anyway, but that is absolutely not something that is claimed. In terms of setting, this is most reminiscent of that of Conan the Barbarian. Another series I love. It's just a fantasy setting. The idea of a small world (then you are in the desert, the next scene in the jungle) and the use of magic and supernatural rituals underline that fact. It never ceases to amaze me that many people continue to take this seriously even in the third part. It's just all crazy and this is just a bad movie, but The Scorpion King 3 knows how to keep things entertaining in a fun way. Battle For Redemption still scores best in terms of humor. Apart from being badass, Olaf is also very funny. The action is actually pretty good too. Again a fun adventure is offered here, although Roel Reiné dares to go very far with ninjas. The previous parts took place in the (Egyptian) desert and here we are suddenly in Thailand. I don't know yet what to think about the overacting of some people, although I often laugh about it. Visually, it could have been a little slicker, although it can be said that they have come a long way with a budget of only 5 million dollars.

I thought this was quite an original and enjoyable historical action movie, actually slightly better than The Outcast that I've also seen. Wasn't expecting much from this umpteenth sequel but actually this is, together with part 1, the best part so far. Especially the battle scenes (the siege of the castle, the ninjas and the summoned divine warriors) are surprisingly original. Of course this is not a deep film but just enjoying the action is fine. 4 stars, I think it's strange that this movie doesn't even get to 2 stars. Sometimes I wonder if some people really make the effort to watch a movie in its entirety.
