Oof! What a change after The Undiscovered Country. Not only has the entire team been refreshed (it was really necessary, those fat-bellied old crew members really couldn't take any longer), but the special effects have improved considerably. First Contact starts very well. I barely know the series, so the Borgs were definitely new to me. Still, it's good vs. Evil principle so plain that every simple soul understands it. The space battles were fine. It only really starts to diminish for me when a fairly modern Earth starts to play an important role. Star Trek becomes too much of an average action movie for me. Apparently it suits the filmmakers very well to throw the science fiction overboard during a good part of the film. Borgs are cool bad guys, but most of the movie is all about thwarting them in their plans. First Contact has a good cast, acceptable special effects, some good moments, but a mediocre script. That makes it a nice movie. A must for the fans of course, but for the average SF enthusiast no more than a snack.

They have portrayed the Borg Queen very erotically.

Data is also excited about it.

Or is that just me.

One of the better Star Trek movies in my opinion comes very close to the TV series The Next Generation. This is in contrast to the latest Star Trek films that mainly opt for a lot of action and spectacle. In that sense, I don't think it will disappoint fans of the series. It could have just been an episode of the series, the only difference being the "Burtain Queen" who as far as I know is not in the series. More than 3*
