This will be my last movie from the franchise for a while. Had it a bit. Series is gradually being milked out in my eyes. Not that The Matrix has a patent on its action moments, but couldn't really have it here. The profusion of slow motions also does the film more harm than good.

Lots of action here, but as I've read elsewhere, it doesn't really benefit the horror genre. And with zombies, I prefer horror over action, but that's a personal taste. There isn't much to it in terms of story either. Despite the short playing time, I had to drag myself to the end.

At the end of Resident Evil: Extinction, Alice [Milla Jovovich] promised to take revenge with a number of clones against Umbrella, the company responsible for the deadly virus that has gripped the world. But her retaliation takes an unpleasant turn when she is administered a serum that causes her to gradually lose her superpowers. Six months later, she contacts the people she helped evacuate in Extinction to Arcadia, Alaska. The best movie in the long-running franchise actually has a story to it, pays more attention to the characters and gives Jovovich the chance to act. So less action in an episode that is partly indebted to Romero's Dead trilogy.

Friendly.

To prepare myself for the reboot that I really want to see, I recently decided to finish the original series. Based on the popular video games, but I don't know whether these follow them literally. Doesn't bother me either, by the way. The games and the movies are pretty separate things I think.

In any case, the lead role is again played by Jovovich. Anderson tries with all his might to make his wife a memorable figure by putting her prominently in the foreground. All six parts have this now and all six are not good for it. She doesn't act very well here either and the fights are cut so quickly that you wonder if Jovovich can actually fight or if this is being disguised with digital scissors.

Visually at least another step forward compared to the previous part. Anderson has never been a man of tall tales and this part is also not characterized by its substantive quality. Very thin film, but within horror and action Anderson is quite in the right place. Clumsy and blunt, action that you don't have to think about with a lot of focus on the presentation. I can.

Nevertheless, a bit of a shame about the rather mediocre effects and the exaggerated use of slow motion, because otherwise the film looks quite nice. The rest of the film is just not as stylized as the very first scene and the characters are so flat that you blush with embarrassment, otherwise this film does what it was made for and that is to entertain.

Nice that there is enough limb and blood flowing combined with a reasonable stylistic approach that benefits the film. Anderson had a generous budget of 60 million and is taking it. This fourth part of the series is perhaps the most entertaining film, but it is nevertheless as flat as a dime and with dialogues that constantly hit the ground running, which is a shame. I did think Larter was pretty cool, Anderson gives her quite a bit of flair.
