I don't like vampire movies. But this is a fun one! Speed is good and the effects and acting are very well done.

In short... nothing wrong with that.

And yes... it's a thin story... but come on... it's about vampires!

Meh.

With a nice animated intro, my previously non-existent expectations soared. But they shouldn't have done that. At the end of the ride Priest turns out to be quite disappointing. I miss a certain fun. It's a little too serious for me for what it is. A shame about the setting - a kind of western-like vampire print, where borrowing from films like Mad Max, Van Helsing and even Star Wars results in some cool designs.

Not a very special film with an abundance of special effects. Priest has very sparse content and director Stewart tries to fill that with visual splendor. A lot of splendor besides some cool designs and nice design to the action, however, is not to be seen. Of course it could have been a lot more woody.

After playing a similar role in Legion, Bettany is a very logical choice for the lead role. In any case, he certainly has the appearance and his looks certainly help. However, he doesn't reach the same level here as in Legion. His character lacks the necessary mystery here and that does not benefit Bettany.

The story is also very thin and barely captivating. A large part of this film is the countdown to the next action scene so that there is now something to experience. It all started very reasonably with an animation part, but then falls through the ice when you can already draw the storyline from the 10th minute. That thing with a respected leader who turns out to be bad is also outdated.

Side characters are also a bit on the dull side despite good acting. The action has some nice moments but the final is not exactly satisfying and the action has too little of its own face. It looks nice, but it's not cool or wow. That is also difficult in a background like Priest's and the monsters don't cooperate much, but it can certainly work.

Ultimately, the film just doesn't feel satisfying enough afterward. Some nice scenes and nice design, but that's about it. The characters and the horror lack a face of their own, the pace is not always good and the story is too thin to keep such a great film afloat. Unfortunately.
