Wow, video, this. Incredible.

Masahiro the esthete Shinoda more than lives up to his name.

An extremely atmospheric noir-yakuza film. It is clear that this is not a style exercise, it all seems to come very easily to Shinoda. As if he has done it all many times before and is (approximately) perfecting it here. A really beautiful film - it never felt monotonous and/or distant, on the contrary.

This is certainly a very stylish film, which is a bit of a mix of a beautiful black and white noir mixed with an arthouse sauce and a story about the Japanese yakuza.

The story is not even that central. It is more the atmosphere and the style that make it fascinating at times. The opening scene in particular is very beautiful. Then a nice portrait is sketched of a man who clearly has difficulty resisting the temptation to make a mistake again. The acting is decent and the characteristic faces of the various characters fit their roles well.

I must say that I sometimes found the middle section a little less interesting, but towards the end it all gets better again, ending with a great final shot. It is very enjoyable at times and certainly above average.

3.5*

A Japanese film noir. I often have difficulty with a crime film, but if the plot is also secondary, then I find it very difficult to follow. The plot was not very interesting anyway and I soon shifted my focus to other elements.

You can benefit from the style and photography, for example. Very atmospherically shot film, such as the opening scene with gambling. Furthermore, the main protagonist is an interesting mysterious character.
