Predictable, but charming romance with a nice bitchy chemistry between the always charming Sweeney and Powell is also fine. There are enough light-hearted and embarrassing situations to keep this standard work interesting. Despite the fact that people are apparently full of money, Australia is a nice setting for this film to take place. It just gives that extra vibe to the film.

Ideal date food.

Reasonable rom-com that mainly relies on the two leading actors. Powell and Sweeney have nice chemistry. Both of course are super handsome actors who pop off the screen.

I've seen almost all of the jokes before. Take for example the first scene with the pants drying. Mr. Bean much?

But I found the other characters disappointing, with the low point being Rapper Gata who really can't act. I'm not a fan of Mulroney either, I don't think he's an addition to any film.

The story is of course predictable, but that is to be expected in a Romcom. Beautiful images in Australia.

All in all, just a pass.

The romantic comedy. a genre that was actually always good for a few successful hits per year, but suddenly became a cheap genre over the past 10 to 15 years, mainly on streaming with meaningless titles. In those years we hardly saw them in the cinemas. Well, if we ignore the Dutch branch for a moment. 'Ticket to Paradise' carefully found its way back to the cinema screen in 2022 and the audience is still enthusiastic about it. We may still be a long way from the heyday of the 1990s, but the beginnings of a revival are here. 'Anyone but You' is the next hit, starring two well-known rising stars in Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.

Powell's career got a boost last year with 'Top Gun: Maverick' and undoubtedly this summer as the leading man in 'Twisters'. Sweeney clearly stood out in several quality series ('The Handmaid's Tale', 'Europhia' and 'The White Lotus'), the music video 'Angry' by The Rolling Stones and as a model for Armani Fragrance. The chemistry in 'Anyone but You' is strong, with occasionally hilarious moments, 'R-rated' humor and of course the unmistakable elements that everything falls into place and of course it takes place in a clean and very 'prosperous' environment. Pure 'romantic escapism' for 100 minutes; uncomplicated and entertaining. The ideal date film. A classic in the making? Far from it, but one that will continue to score extremely well on streaming and undoubtedly on TV in the coming years.
