A reboot of Prison Break is coming, but with completely new characters.
The original series told the story of Michael Scofield, a man who purposefully gets himself incarcerated so he can save his brother from a death sentence by breaking them both out of prison.
Starting in 2005, it ran for four seasons before a television movie, The Final Break, was produced.
In 2017 it was revived for a short nine-episode season five.
The first season in particular received almost universal acclaim from fans, though as the series progressed, the reception softened, with many believing the show had outstayed its welcome and become too repetitive.
Entertainment Weekly reports that a Prison Break reboot will be developed by Hulu and Mayans M.C. creator and showrunner Elgin James.
It will be set in the same world as the original show, but with entirely new characters, which means no Wentworth Miller or Dominic Purcell.
Does Wentworth Miller want to return?
Miller eventually came out as gay during the middle of the show's run and had to deal with homophobic trolls, which severely impacted his mental health.
When asked if he would ever return as Scofield, he said no as he wanted to focus more on playing characters aligned with his sexuality.
“I’m out. Of PB. Officially,” he wrote on Instagram.
"Not because of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told)
“I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry.
“If you’re hot and bothered because you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one…That’s your work. – W.M.”
