Netflix has cancelled many shows in the past, but one that caused a particular uproar was David Fincher's Mindhunter.
The official premise of the show reads:
'Catching a criminal often requires the authorities to get inside the villain's mind to figure out how he thinks. That's the job of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench. They attempt to understand and catch serial killers by studying their damaged psyches. Along the way, the agents pioneer the development of modern serial-killer profiling. The crime drama has a strong pedigree behind the camera, with Oscar-nominated director David Fincher and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron among the show's executive producers.'
It starred Jonathan Groff, Anna Torv and Holt McCallany.
Despite critically acclaimed two series, it was cancelled by Netflix before a third series could be produced.
Fincher explained that the expense of the show was certainly a factor in its cancellation.
"I'm very proud of the first two seasons, but it's a particularly expensive series and, in the eyes of Netflix, we haven't attracted a large enough audience to justify such an investment," the acclaimed director previously told Le Journal du Dimanche.
Will there be a third season of Mindhunter?
The clamour from fans for a third season means that the chance of it being rejuvenated will never go away, and McCallany recently revealed that Fincher has indeed thought about a return, even if nothing is confirmed.
"I’ve heard that David’s thought about it. I’m not saying it’s going to come back. But what I am saying is that if it comes back, I’m coming back with it, "McCallany told Awards Daily. "You can take that to the bank, but it’ll depend on what David wants to do.
"It’s been a few years now, so it’s probably unlikely, but just even that he would think about it is a hopeful sign."
