It would appear that Sebastian Stan will not feature in Captain America: Brave New World as Bucky Barnes.
Bucky has played a major part in all Captain America movies as well as the Avengers' Infinity Saga. Initially a World War Two soldier alongside his friend Steve Rogers, he is kidnapped by Hydra and changed into a villainous super soldier named The Winter Soldier.
He would eventually earn redemption and helped defeat the forces of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Stan would appear as the character again alongside Anthony Mackie in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
That Marvel show set up Mackie as the new Captain America, with the fourth Cap movie titled Brave New World. However, it would appear Sam Wilson won't be able to rely on Bucky for help, as Mackie lamented that he wasn't able to work with Stan on Captain America 4.
"The Falcon and (the) Winter Soldier, I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian can get paid to hang out," he told the Radio Times.
"Because it's like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It's kind of like the perfect storm of happiness. When they decided to go back to the movies, it is what it is, but I don't have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit. Anything I can do to hang out with Daniel, a dancing Daniel Brühl, makes me very happy."
Captain America 4 reshoots
Marvel isn't going through a great time post Avengers: Endgame.
The box office success has declined as well as the critical reception for its movies and TV shows.
The Marvels, a recent release, was a critical and commercial failure.
And, things on Captain America: Brave New World are worrying, as according to industry insider Jeff Sneider of The Mot Mic podcast, extensive reshoots have been pencilled in for the period between January 2024 and May 2024.
Three major sequences will be reshot or have been cut from the movie completely.
At the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers made the decision to travel back in time and stay in the past in order to stay with his former love, Agent Carter.
It was a perfect end to the character's arc in the MCU, but it opened questions about Cap's future. Mackie has been given the reins and the shield following the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and he'll star in Captain America: Brave New World.
The movie was previously titled Captain America: New World Order but this was changed due to that phrase's connotations with antisemitism.
