The movie acts as a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road and stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber and Lachy Hulme.
Taylor-Joy plays a younger version of Furiosa to that of Charlize Theron's portrayal in the previous film.
The official premise reads:
'As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.'
While Fury Road took place over just a few days, Furiosa is an "odyssey" according to Miller, that will show a large portion of the character's life.
“The story is the saga of Furiosa, and how she gets taken from home, and spends the rest of her life trying to get back,” the director told Empire.
“Fury Road, the story unfolds over three days and two nights. This film follows the story that runs directly into Fury Road, for 15 years. It’s a different animal. It’s got many different locations. It’s an odyssey. No question.”
Miller had already developed the script for Furiosa before making Fury Road, and Theron was so impressed by the latter that she was desperate to make both movies.
“She said, ‘Please, George, can we make this first?’” Miller recalled. “It was the first time I realised that there’s something really strong in this story.”
Furiosa will be released worldwide on 23 May 2024.
Furiosa trailer
In the new trailer, we get a much longer look, as well as some extended dialogue, of Hemsworth's villain, Warlord Dementus. And, yes, we got a bald Anya Taylor-Joy, too.
