Ari Aster and Joaquin Phoenix will collaborate again for a new project titled Eddington.
The pair are coming off Beau is Afraid and clearly established a positive relationship while on set as they are set to work together for a new feature.
According to World of Reel, "Eddington is about a couple (Lindsay and Marc) driving through New Mexico, on their way to Los Angeles, who run out of gas just outside of small town Eddington, New Mexico. Lindsay and Marc decide to enter the town for help. They are, at first, greeted very warmly, but, as nightfall comes, the picturesque setting soon turns into a nightmare."
Aster and Phoenix have been spotted together scouting possible locations in New Mexico. Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone co-star.
The Hereditary and Midsommar director previously described Eddington as a "Western-noir dark ensemble comedy."
"There was a period of time when I thought Midsommar would be the debut feature, and there was a period when I thought another script called Eddington might be the first movie," he said in an AMA on Reddit.
"For like five years, I was trying to get that Western-noir dark ensemble comedy going. That won’t be the next one, by the way, though I do still want to make it very badly. I made Hereditary first, but I always had Midsommar in my back pocket, like it was right there in me.”
Aster begged to work with Phoenix
Aster had been keen to work with Phoenix for years before Beau is Afraid.
"You get on your hands and knees and beg," Aster recalled of his first meeting with the Academy Award winner.
"He's the best. He's the greatest. He's the prince. And those eyes. He could be so naked, so exposed, and he's funny. He's a funny guy."
