Neve Campbell has finally got around to watching Scream VI.
The actress has led the Scream franchise since the first movie in 1996. However, during pre-production for Scream VI, she announced that she would not be returning as Sidney Prescott due to a salary dispute with the producers.
“As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream," she wrote on Instagram at the time.
“I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
The movie was released to critical and commercial success, with the focus again being on the younger group of heroes, as was the case in the 2022 version of Scream
It naturally took Campbell a while to watch it, and here's her thoughts...
"I watched it until two weeks ago. It took me a minute, I don't know why," Campbell said at Monster-Mania Con.
"I actually thought they did a really good job. I think the cast are really powerful, wonderful actors.
"I don't wish these movies ill will. I wanted the movie to be good. It's not like I'm sitting in my house going, 'I hope it sucks, I hope it doesn't do well.' I care about all the people involved. There's someone at the top who only thinks about money and that's their prerogative."
Will Neve Campbell return to Scream?
Scream VII is happening and fans are still clamouring for Sidney to return, so could it happen?
"It's a hard question, because it's a matter of principle, as well," she replied on KiSS 92.5 when asked if fan support could catalyse a return to the franchise.
"As much as I love the characters that I've played and ones that I've had a history with, it's also very important to me the concept of equal pay. I think we're still not there yet. I really do believe that had I been a male, that the offer would have been different. I can't prove that, but it's the feeling I have and the way that I was treated was not great and it feels disrespectful. So at what point does self-respect come into play? It needs to always be there, right?"
Melissa Barrera was recently fired from Scream VII for social media posts relating to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
