As Scream fans, we have gotten accustomed to beloved characters meeting their end at the hands of Ghostface.

Characters like Randy in Scream 2 and Cotton in Scream 3 are ones which left fans devastated but there is one death that hits harder than them all - Dewey.

In the 2022 reboot of Scream, Dewey (David Arquette) is pulled back into an investigation regarding new Ghostface killings and ends up being stabbed to death inside a hospital.

It is undoubtedly the most famous death in the entire franchise and many fans were left upset at Dewey's demise, including Neve Campbell herself, who plays Sidney Prescott.

“I thought it was tragic and I don’t usually like to criticize the writing in these projects,” Campbell said. at Monster-Mania Con.

“But I was really disappointed in their choice to get rid of David. Dewey’s such a wonderful character, and I think we were all in love with him and I think we all felt pretty sad about that. Which of course is the reason they do it, because it has more impact, but now I miss him. I want to see more of him.”

Campbell has led the franchise since the original Scream movie, but sat out Scream VI due to a pay dispute.

The door has been opened for her return, though, especially after new star Melissa Barrera was fired due to pro-Palestine posts on social media.

Barrera's dismissal has led some fans to instigate a boycott of Scream VII.

Will Neve Campbell return to Scream?

Scream VII is happening and fans are still clamouring for Sidney to return, so could it happen?

"It's a hard question, because it's a matter of principle, as well," she replied on KiSS 92.5 when asked if fan support could catalyse a return to the franchise.

"As much as I love the characters that I've played and ones that I've had a history with, it's also very important to me the concept of equal pay. I think we're still not there yet. I really do believe that had I been a male, that the offer would have been different. I can't prove that, but it's the feeling I have and the way that I was treated was not great and it feels disrespectful. So at what point does self-respect come into play? It needs to always be there, right?"
