Kirsten Dunst would have no issue returning to the world of comic book hero movies as she'd welcome the healthy paycheck.
The Academy Award-nominated actress starred as Mary-Jane Watson, the love interest of Peter Parker in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3.
Sam Raimi's trilogy was an enormous box office success and it is credited with ushering in the era of superhero dominance that would take over cinema for the subsequent 20 years...and counting.
Tobey Maguire played Peter in that trilogy and made a sensational return as his version of the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
When asked by Marie Claire if she would return as MJ in the future, Dunst responded honestly:
“Yes because you get paid a lot of money, I have two children, and I support my mother.”
In a 2022 interview with Deadline, she said the multiverse arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make it possible for MJ to return.
“There’s still time," she teased.
"I mean, listen, no one’s asked me about anything but I do think that … I mean, this multi-universe just keeps going on and on. I wouldn’t … I feel like that could happen.”
Spider-Man gender pay gap
Dunst previously revealed that there was an "extreme" pay gap between herself and co-star Maguire on the original Spider-Man trilogy.
“I didn’t even think about it,” the actress recalled. “I was just like, ‘Oh yeah, Tobey is playing Spider-Man.’ But you know who was on the cover of the second Spider-Man poster? Spider-Man and ME.”
According to Variety, Maguire was paid $4 million for the first movie and by the third he was earning $17m. For Spider-Man 3, Dunst earned $7m less than her co-star.
