Hayden Christensen believes the Star Wars prequels have held up their quality over time and are actually appreciated more than when they were released.
In the mid-noughties, Christensen suddenly became one of the most famous actors in the world when he was cast to play Anakin Skywalker in the second two Star Wars prequels, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
The prequel trilogy, again developed by George Lucas, is generally considered to be a disappointment among Star Wars fanatics, though reception to the films has been more kind in recent years.
Christensen's portrayal of Darth Vader became more popular too, and that popularity increased when he returned as the character in Obi-Wan Kenobi. He subsequently made a surprise cameo in Ahsoka, too.
“It’s been a remarkable experience. And just a very heartwarming one,” Christensen told Empire. “The journey that I’ve been on with Star Wars over the last 20 plus years... it’s been a wild ride, and where we’re at now is really meaningful to me.
“I think that those movies have held up well over time. It feels like vindication for the work that we did. Everyone that worked on those movies thought that we were part of something special. We all wanted to do our very best work, and we cared a lot about it. And so to see the response from the fans now, it’s very cool.”
A Darth Vader spin-off series?
Christensen was previously asked by Digital Spy if he would be interested in making a Darth Vader spin-off series for Disney+.
"If the opportunity presents itself, I would be all for it," the 42-year-old responded.
"I think this is a character that is very complex, and there’s a lot there to further explore. If the powers that be were so inclined, I would be so excited to get to do so."
