"What if you had 72 hours to save everything you live for?"

Life seems perfect for John Brennan. Until his wife Lara is arrested for a horrific murder she did not commit. Three years later, John does everything he can to keep his family together. He raises their son, teaches at school and does everything in his power to prove her innocence. When the last appeal is also rejected and Lara becomes suicidal, John decides there is only one solution; he must free his wife from prison. He devises a detailed escape plan and plunges into a dangerous and unknown world. Ending up risking everything for the love of his life. Remake of the French film Pour Elle.

The movie had me hooked almost immediately! It has a good tempo right away and it stays in it nicely. Tension is there from start to finish. Nice story, but even better the acting performances of both the lead roles and the fun interesting supporting roles. A few hiccups and inconsistencies here and there, but this hardly bothered me. The film is simply top notch and is definitely worth watching!

“No prison in the world is airtight.”

Exciting film in which it is a miracle that the film still manages to keep everything so believable. A woman is arrested for being a suspect in a murder case, and the woman's husband hatches a plan to free her from prison.

In the wrong hands, this can turn into an unbelievable B-movie, but director Haggis keeps everything down to earth and shows step by step how John (Crowe) puts his plan into action. In the beginning John still radiates helplessness, but you see him increasingly turning into a man who would do anything to free his wife. He himself is convinced of her innocence, but as a viewer you remain in the dark about her guilt or innocence until the very end. Crowe is strong as a softie placed in an extreme situation and Banks astonishes with her dramatic role. The last half hour is very exciting and I was on the edge of my seat. The dark ending is the icing on the cake.

Boring.

The kind of film that wants everything worked out in such a way that the result is just stale, slow and annoying. The plot is actually too silly to treat with much seriousness, but that's a bit in the style of Haggis I'm afraid.

Crowe is definitely not an actor to carry an entire movie either. The rest of the cast never knows what to add, the bit parts of Neeson and Wilde are even a bit ridiculous. Furthermore, it is a film that feels very solid, but never really knows how to surprise or can never offer anything extra.

Could have been 40 minutes shorter, could have been a bit more light-hearted, it just could have been a lot more alive. Now it is mainly a lesson is to tie up loose ends and bump people into the shins as little as possible. So bland cinema, not for me.

1.5*
