Hellegat plot

After the demise of the brickyards, the Rupel region faces numerous environmental problems and economic upheaval. A retired worker's last week of work, Louis, parallels the first week of a young worker, Sam. Gradually it appears that the old worker and the newcomer have a lot in common and they both revolt, each in their own way. The question is whether Sam, despite his diploma, the support of his girlfriend and his talent as a goalkeeper, will sink into the rut and routine against which Louis revolted much too late.

Solid film by Le Bon about the Rupel region, the region south of the province of Antwerp, bordering East Flanders, where brick factories had a large sales market at the time. The focus is on Sam, a worker who goes to work for the major patron in the region, Lagasse. The same Lagasse is also chairman of the local football club where Sam is a promising goalkeeper. Sam will soon discover that both interests are in each other's way, both in a positive and negative sense.

Traditional Flemish film, if such a thing exists, sometime in the early 1980s, with workers instead of farmers, but with the same authentic atmosphere as the films of Verhavert, for example. Setting is fine, acting also decent. Serious undertone prevails, although it is light-hearted and comical here and there.

The section on environmental pollution could indeed be better developed. Great speech from Louis too, who really hit the spot. Lagasseon the other hand, he does not let it get to his heart, if he has any, when he has smelled money and power.

A Flemish indie film, according to the standards of that time. Not a comedy or literary film adaptation of a Flemish classic, but a socio-ecological story about a brick factory and pollution in the area. This film is now more than 40 years old, but the theme is still relevant. The acting is a bit outdated, but it's still not too bad. It remains a bit light with the storyline of the football club where the factory owner is also the major sponsor (and that years before FC De Kampioenen came up with the idea with Balthazar Boma). Better than I expected, although it comes from a time when Flanders had to learn a lot about film and budgets were much lower.

Strong Flemish film about the life of the worker in the late 70's - 80's. The corrupt game regarding waste is well developed, as well as the hierarchical power relations and the appeasement of people
